The Boy, The Man and The God – Finding and developing the male archetypes through tribal mapping

This is a speech about the three founding male archetypes: the boy, the man, ...and the god, and their respective relationships to one another.
“Fatherhood” relates to both the boy-man and the man-god relationships.
“Fathers” was always a term used in pluralis in the tribal settings and we would be wise to return to this understanding today.
Away from all the misery that “the lonely father” as a byproduct of the idea of “the romantic love marriage” has caused us. And how weak as men it has made us.
Manhood is about collaboration and not about competition. Men seek teams. And the most important team of all is what Alexander Bard calls "the team of fathers and mentors".

Alexander Bard is a philosopher based in Stockholm, Sweden and has co-written five books with Jan Söderqvist.
Their latest book “Digital Libido—Sex, Power and Violence in The Network Society” was released in October 2018.

During his work as a social worker, Bola noticed that male adolescents have great difficulty meeting the traditional expectations of strong, tough masculinity and suppressing their emotions. Sport is often the only socially acceptable reason for men to cry. The result is often drug or alcohol abuse or violence.

Expressions of masculinity can be destructive and toxic, either through violence against women and femicides, but it is also reflected in the increased suicide rate among men. In his book, which he means as “a call to dissolve the social construct of masculinity”, Bola pleads for more openness to one’s own emotions and that men should also read feminist literature or write a diary.

More and more men miss a feeling of real, lived manhood in themselves.
They suffer from too little aggression, willingness to conflict, self-confidence and leadership—about themselves and in their partnership. On ...the contrary: women have clear leadership in at least 80% of relationships in this country. More and more men complain about their emotional dependence on their partner or women in general. What are the real causes for this?

Bjørn Thorsten Leimbach has been dealing with this question as a seminar leader and psychotherapist for 25 years. While usually working on the solution of the above problems, he would like to present the psychological and social backgrounds for a weakened and insecure masculinity in our society.

In this lecture the “man maker”, as he is often called, speaks about the origin of the problem: childhood. He himself is the father of four boys and describes why boys have found it increasingly difficult to develop their masculinity in recent decades. Everything masculine is even withdrawn and suppressed from them through permanent female influence and one-sided mothering. His thesis: the lack of patronage by the biological father and the lack of male caregivers and role models is the main reason for a weakened and insecure masculinity today. He sheds light on the essential, feminist matrix of our society that prevents men from living out their masculinity.

This lecture is not only enriching for fathers and for dealing with children—it also creates an understanding of the influences that have shaped you as a man.

Bjørn Thorsten Leimbach is a prominent author, trainer and coach for
men. For the last 30 years, he has lead seminars and apprenticeships focusing on personality and management. Numerous therapists, trainers and coaches yield inspiration from his unconventional approaches and his provocative ideas.

His bestseller “Männlichkeit Leben (Live masculinity)” has become a guideline for the men‘s movement in the German-speaking world. In 1995, as a couples therapist, and together with Leila Bust, he developed and, since, lead the couples and tantra training LoveCreation®.

No ...wonder man is confused.

In his lecture, Björn Süfke calls on his peers to renounce the demands of society, both traditional and modern, and “reinvent” their own masculinity. And he appeals to women to really allow these changes. Because only in this way will we all ultimately benefit: through partnership and parenting on an equal footing and a truly equal society.

About the speaker

Björn Süfke is a psychologist, therapist for men and author. He holds regular lectures and offers advanced training courses dealing with an array of topics about men. His most recent book “Papa, du hast ja Haare auf der Glatze (Daddy, you have hairs on your bald head!)” now coadunates with his previous publications “Männer – was heute heißt, ein Mann zu sein (Men—what it means to be a man today)” and “Männerseelen – ein psychologischer Reiseführer (A man‘s soul—a psychological guidebook)”.
